148. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if he will reverse the decision of Student Universal Support Ireland which has refused to pay the contribution fee in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Cork who was enrolled in a social work degree in USI, having previously moved back to his parents' house due to ill-health; if he feels that it is sufficient that grown adults are refused education funding based on their parents' incomes when they are not guaranteed that their parents will fund a course; the options open to students in those circumstances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The appeal was received by the Board on 31st October 2013 and will be heard within the timeframe set out in the Student Support Act 2011.
