I am advised that the Oberstown Board of Management is currently considering the findings of the report referred to by the Deputy. This process is ongoing and it is important to ensure that this is done in a fair and impartial manner.

This process has taken some time due to the need to develop a comprehensive response to the issues raised in the report and in order to allow persons affected make a contribution to the process.

I am advised that the Board of Management will be considering this issue at its October meeting and that it is expected to adopt a position on the issues raised in the near future. The Chairman of the Board has confirmed his willingness to meet with staff on the issue, after this process has been completed.

It is not possible to say at this stage when or in what form the report itself will be published. What I can say is that I am fully committed to the provision of safe and secure custody for children in Oberstown and a positive and supportive work environment for all staff in this challenging area. I expect that the outcome of this process will result in further steps to ensure that this is the case.
