Total gross motor tax receipts from 2008 to the end of August 2013 are set out in the table.

YEAR TOTAL GROSS MOTOR TAX RECEIPTS €
2008 1,058,605,132
2009 1,057,822,734
2010 1,023,823,935
2011 1,010,419,164
2012 1,054,701,750
2013 (to end August) 771,365,796

Estimated income to the end of 2013 is in the order of €1,0 98 m. In subsequent years, in the absence of re-balancing measures, income is expected to fall by between 3-5% year on year, due mainly to the increase in the number of private vehicles taxed on the basis of CO2, which currently have lower average tax rates.
