282. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the list of engagements that he had on his September 2013 visit to China; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [39326/13]

Minister Brendan Howlin recently travelled to Dalian, China to attend the World Economic Forum 'Annual Meeting of the New Champions'. The meeting was attended by political and business leaders from across the globe. While in China, Minister Howlin engaged in a series of high level meetings and several interviews with International, Chinese and Irish media. Minister Howlin participated in a number of events during World Economic Forum which focused on prevailing global economic matters, including sessions entitled “Creating the Next Frontiers of Growth” and “Innovation to Bridge the Knowledge Gap and Share Competitiveness”. A wide range of meetings and networking opportunities were scheduled so as to fully utilize the visit.

These included:

Meeting with the Vice President of Academy for Macroeconomic Research under National Development and Reform Commission, Professor Wang Yiming

Meeting with the Chairman of China Construction Bank Leasing, GU Jingpu, China Construction Bank HQ

Meeting with the Board of Saongroup, Saongroup China HQ

Interview with the Economic Observer

Meeting with the Chairman of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) University Council (Yang Xueyi)

Witness the signing of Memorandum of Understanding to launch Irish Studies Network

Speech at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) University Council
