The Deputy will be aware that the Commissioner is responsible for the detailed allocation of resources, including personnel, throughout the organisation and I have no function in the matter. This allocation of resources is constantly monitored in the context of crime trends, policing needs and other operational strategies in place on a District, Divisional and Regional level to ensure optimum use is made of Garda resources and the best possible Garda service is provided to the public.
I have been informed by the Garda Commissioner that the personnel strength of the Blackrock District (F) on the 31 May 2012 and on the 31 August 2013, the latest date for which figures are readily available, was as set out in the table hereunder:
- | 31/05/2012 | 31/05/2012 | 31/08/2013 | 31/08/2013 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Station | Full time members | Reserve Members | Full time members | Reserve Members |
Blackrock (District F ) | 91 | 3 | 89 | 5 |
Dundrum | 71 | 3 | 102 | 4 |
Stepaside | 28 | - | ||
Total | 190 | 6 | 191 | 9 |
The District is also currently supported by 9 civilian staff who provide administrative and technical support to members of the Garda Síochána. All of these resources are augmented, when appropriate, by gardaí from national units.
