291. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in view of the high levels of childhood obesity here and the fact that sport and exercise can tackle the problem, if he will consider providing funding to companies (details supplied) in order that they can have a presence in every town here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Irish Sports Council, which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the promotion, development and co-ordination of sport, including the allocation of funding for programmes aimed at increasing the levels of participation in sport.  I have referred the Deputy's question to the Irish Sports Council for direct reply.  I would ask the Deputy to inform my office if a reply is not received within 10 days.
