234. To ask the Minister for Social Protection the number of days notice required to be given by a caree to a carer if the caree wishes to discontinue with the services of the carer on the carer's allowance scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [28960/13]

Carer's allowance can be stopped at any time. The recipient of the carer's allowance payment can notify the department if they cease to provide care and also the caree in question can notify this department if full time care is not being provided and the allowance. The payment will then be stopped. The number of days notice required to be given by a caree to a carer if the caree wishes to discontinue with the services of the carer are not defined in carer’s allowance guidelines or legislation.
