161. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the current situation in relation to providing a suitable building to facilitate the Department of Social Protection’s plan to open a Social Welfare Office in the Lucan area, Dublin; if his Department will consider renting on a temporary basis a suitable building to facilitate the opening of the Social Welfare Office until or if consideration is being given to building such a facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My officials are currently looking for a large public office in the Lucan area as part of the roll out of the new INTREO programme on behalf of the Department of Social Protection. The basic requirement is for centrally located office accommodation of approximately 2,000 square metres with suitable access for public callers. The availability of adequate ground floor space to meet the requirements of a public office is also essential. In March, 2013 the Commissioners advertised for appropriate space in the national newspapers but unfortunately no replies were received. My officials are continuing to look for and evaluate suitable accommodation, but to-date they have not been able to identify any premises that are in a suitable location and of sufficient size to meet these needs.
