572. To ask the Minister for Health if he will list the regulators which are accountable to his Department; the administrative cost of operating each regulator in 2012; the accommodation costs and the number of staff employed; the total income and expenditure in 2012 for each regulator; his plans to amalgamate some regulatory offices and to amalgamate some regulatory processes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Twelve of the eighteen Non-Commercial State Agencies operating under the aegis of my Department carry out functions which include a regulatory element. The table below sets out the staffing levels for each of these agencies as at 31st March 2013, the most recently available data. Work is ongoing in relation to the amalgamation of the Opticians Board and CORU and I hope to bring the Heads of a Bill to Cabinet in the coming weeks. The agencies participate in the Health, Social Care and Regulatory Forum which provides ongoing opportunities to develop and improve synergies and a number have entered into shared services agreements as a means of achieving greater efficiencies.

The information requested in relation to income and expenditure etc is currently being collated and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as it is available.
