236. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the legal requirement for decals on taxis in view of the case heard in the High Court on 4 February 2013, where a judge allowed a taxi driver renew their taxi licence without adhering to the requirement to have decals in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has responsibility for the regulation of the taxi industry under the provisions of the Public Transport Regulation Act, 2009 and is also the lead agency with responsibility for implementation of the recommendations of the Taxi Regulation Review Report 2011, including the taxi branding requirement under Action 31 of the Review Report. I have forwarded the your Question to the NTA for direct reply. If you do not receive a response within ten working days please notify my private office.
