212. To ask the Minister for Social Protection the provision that exists to make rent allowance available to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo, who find themselves with their name still on a mortgage but no longer enjoying the benefits of a family home, and no longer involved with servicing the mortgage, as they have had to move out post separation and are unemployed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. In order to be considered for a rent supplement payment, the person in question must first be assessed by a housing authority as having a housing need. The person concerned was advised of this by the Department in September 2012 and again in December 2012 and he was also provided with documentation and forms to assist him with this process. To date, the person concerned has not provided the Department with evidence that a housing needs assessment has been completed.
