To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht his plans to ensure that Kilmainham Mill, which is an important example of Ireland’s industrial archaeology, is transferred into public ownership; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that its proximity to Kilmainham Gaol and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham make this entire area an ideal location for the development of a historic quarter with significant tourist potential; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Mill referred to by the Deputy is included on the Record of Monuments and Places established under Section 12 of the National Monuments Acts 1930, as amended. Any proposal to carry works at or in relation to such a monument or place is required to be notified to me, as Minister, not less than 2 months in advance of the commencement of such works.

There are no proposals at present for the State to acquire ownership of the Mill but the matter will be kept under review for consideration as resources permit.
