To ask the Minister for Health with reference to the mobility supports, if the new scheme will be operational when current schemes discontinue; the impact of the discontinuation on persons with disabilities who will start third level education in September 2013; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Government is very conscious of the needs of people with a disability who require transport supports from the State. A special review group, which will be independently chaired, has been established to seek an alternative method to provide for the needs of people in a manner that does not run counter to the Equal Status Acts. Both myself and the Minister for Health have emphasised to the review group that a practical solution or solutions need to be identified as soon as possible, to address the matter. Current recipients of the mobility allowance will continue to be paid for the next four months, as we devise an alternative method of meeting those needs.
