To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to any studies and surveys carried out in County Cork in 2012 by officials from his Department or bodies, such as local authorities, under the aegis of his Department into the risk of river flooding and sea incursions in estuaries and other low lying areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. No studies or surveys in relation to flooding matters were carried out by my Department in County Cork in 2012. However, I am aware that Cork County Council , in conjunction with the Office of Public Works , is involved in a number of projects including flood risk assessment and management studies, flood relief schemes and flood mitigation works. Details of these projects are available from the local authority. While the Environmental Protection Agency did not carry out any studies or surveys of the type in question in Cork during this period, they have recorded flow measurements at hydrometric stations during flood events.

The Office of Public Works is the lead agency for flood risk management in Ireland and coordinates the activities of Government Departments, local authorities and other bodies in managing the implementation of the national flood risk management policy.
