To ask the Minister for Social Protection if he will set out in tabular form the number of families and total number of beneficiaries of child benefit in each year from 2005 - 2012; the rates of payment that applied and the gross expenditure on child benefit in each year; and if she will make a statement on the matter. (1)The rates quoted for the years 2005 to 2008 are the rates in payment from April of the relevant year.

(2)In 2009 and for subsequent years rate increases for child benefit were aligned with the tax year and subsequently any variances in the rates payable commenced in January of the relevant year.

(3)The Gross Expenditure in respect of 2012 is the current provisional outturn.
