I propose to take Questions Nos. 179 and 180 together.

The Irish Government continues to seek a public inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane in line with the commitments undertaken by the British and Irish governments at Weston Park and in accordance with the all party motion adopted in the Dáil in 2006. The Government believes that the work already undertaken by Desmond De Silva QC can facilitate an inquiry that need not be lengthy, open-ended and inordinately expensive. In contacts with Prime Minister Cameron both before and following publication of the review, I have made it clear that the Irish Government will continue to seek a public inquiry. The Tánaiste has also made this position clear in his contacts with Deputy Prime Minister Clegg and Secretary of State Villiers. Prime Minister Cameron also indicated that he had asked the Secretaries of State for Defence and Northern Ireland and the Cabinet Secretary to report back to him on all the issues that arise from this Report.
