To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if he will examine a case (details supplied) in which a recent request was made for a replacement Garda National Immigration Bureau card following a robbery; if his Department will examine the possibility of a refund in this case in view of the fact that the stolen GNIB card was recovered days after a replacement card was purchased at much expense. I have been informed by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service of my Department that following the matter being reported to An Garda Síochána, the original registration certificate was recovered the next day. In the particular circumstances of the case, my Department have contacted the person concerned requesting her bank account details with a view to providing a refund in this instance.

I should remind the Deputy that queries in relation to the status of individual immigration cases may be made direct to INIS by Email using the Oireachtas Mail facility which has been specifically established for this purpose. The service enables up to-date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek this information through the more administratively expensive Parliamentary Questions process.
