To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the way it is planned to honour and acknowledge the contribution of John McShane at the renovated Killarney House; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1613/13]

In 2011, I announced an extensive refurbishment programme for Killarney House and its gardens. These works are in progress and, when the House is fully refurbished, it will act as an interpretative centre for the whole of Killarney National Park.

Given that the State acquired the vast majority of the Killarney National Park lands and buildings through civic benevolence, it is intended that the interpretive plan for Killarney House will include the historical background to the Park’s development, including reference to the historical owners of the lands that now make up Killarney National Park, as well as an appropriate acknowledgement of those, including John McShain, who made generous donations of property.
