During the transition period which migrates the administration from the local authorities and VECs to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), staff resources and associated staffing costs will continue to be incurred by both the local authorities and VECs, as well as SUSI. Staffing resources and staffing costs associated with the processing of grant applications for students renewing their grants are met by local authorities and vocational education committees within their overall resources. Details of the administration costs for local authorities and VECs for year one and two is not readily available. It was however estimated in 2011 that the cost of administration of student grants by the other 66 grant awarding authorities was in the region of €10.5m.
