To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if he will clarify the current position regarding proposals to introduce legislation to tighten rules on declaring a car off the road for the purposes of motor tax; the way this will affect owners of vintage cars/classic vehicles which are primarily only active in the summer months; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The General Scheme of a Bill to tighten the procedures for declaring a vehicle off the road for motor tax purposes has been approved by Cabinet and will be published once the legal drafting process has been completed. Until such time as the Bill has been published, I do not propose to make specific comment on the provisions to be contained therein. However, I am aware of the particular concerns in relation to vintage vehicles and am bearing these in mind.
