To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the number of schools identified to progress to tender and construction in 2013; if he is now in a position to identify all those schools that will definitely proceed; if it will be possible to substitute schools not proceeding with schools that are ready for commencement though not included in his initial five year plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, my priority is to ensure that there is sufficient school accommodation to meet projected pupil enrolment increases into the future. The 5 Year Construction Plan that I announced on 9 March last as part of a €2 billion capital investment programme outlines the major school projects that will commence construction over the duration of the Plan.

In addition to the Five Year Construction Plan my Department is committed to publishing a detailed annual programme in relation to planned expenditure on individual major school projects commencing construction. The first of these, which related to 2012 expenditure, was published in December 2011 last. It is anticipated that details of the 2013 annual programme will be announced before year-end. Meanwhile, the current status of all projects on the school building programme may be viewed on my Department's website at www.education.ie and this will be updated regularly throughout the year.
