To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if he will report on the progress of the Keeping Communities Safe document, the publication of which local authorities have indicated is necessary as it will inform local fire safety strategies. [41986/12]

My Department’s National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management is currently processing the output from a round of stakeholder consultation on the draft “Keeping Communities Safe” (KCS) document. The draft document is currently being revised on foot of the submissions received with the intention of publishing the final KCS document before the end of the year. It is intended that the national norms and standards set in KCS together with the application of a national model for a Risk Based Approach, will be integrated into future service planning within each local authority’s fire service.
