The investigation into the loss of the fishing vessel MFV Pere Charles was carried out by the Marine Casualty Investigation Board, which has the statutory responsibility for investigating marine casualties in Irish waters.
The Board, while independent in the exercise of its functions, operates under the aegis of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, which is the responsibility of my colleague Minister Leo Varadkar, T.D.
