To ask the Minister for Finance if he has costed the proposal to grant a rebate on diesel to essential users as allowed under EU directive 2003/96/EC; if he plans to introduce such a rebate in view of the pressures being experienced by the haulage industry in particular; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy is aware a working group was set up between officials of my Department, the IRHA and members of the Oireachtas. This working group had a series of meetings to discuss issues of concern to the haulage industry. I have recently received a submission from the group and I am considering the matters raised.
