To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the number and names of all special advisers, special press advisers, or any other type of Ministerial adviser in his Department; the name of the Minister / Minister of State to whom he reports; the salary of each advisor now; the salary of each advisor at the time they were appointed; if any salary increase was asked for; if this was granted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 1366 and 1439 together.

I have detailed below all Ministerial Advisers that are employed in my Department. A salary increase was requested for one Special Adviser based on the substantially higher salary earned in the private sector prior to his appointment as Special Adviser. A single point salary of €110,000 was approved by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform.

Under the scheme for Secretarial Assistance which is open to all members of the Oireachtas, Liam Cahill provides PR advice to Minister of State McEntee. The contract for the provision of this service is with Cahill’s Sports Emporium Ltd of which Mr Cahill is an employee. The annual allowance payable under this scheme of €41,092.
