To ask the Minister for Defence the amount of money spent on an annual basis on education and training of staff in 2011 and to date in 2012; the number of staff that availed of each course; if he will provide a list of the courses staff undertook and the cost of each course per person. [38482/12]

The expenditure on staff education and training was €107,273.15 in 2011 and €62,054.54 to 31 August 2012. These figures represent total expenditure by the Department on training and education, including amounts paid under the Refund of Fees Scheme. This Scheme provides funding to staff members to undertake third level studies outside of normal working hours. Details of training courses undertaken by staff and the cost per person of these courses are as follows:
