Question 100: To ask the Minister for Finance the reason Government Departments including the Department of Health continue to have their banking business with UK banks when banks bailed out and supported by the tax payer such as AIB and Bank of Ireland are not used by these Departments to conduct their banking business; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The only role my Department has in this matter is that the Department of Health send instructions to my Department requesting the transfer of funds to their EFT/Public Bank Accounts for the purposes of making (1) payments to suppliers and (2) salary payments to their staff. My Department transfers the funds to these accounts via the Central Bank. My Department does not operate commercial bank accounts on behalf of the Department of Health.
