Question 249: To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the annual saving to the Exchequer if all current and future public sector pensions in payment were capped at €60,000 based on current public sector numbers and assuming the cap of €60,000 included the integration of the contributory State pension. [36576/12]

It is estimated that the imposition of a cap of €60,000 on pensions in the civil service, would result in an estimated annual saving of €8m. This takes no account of the tax and other statutory deductions foregone. Comparable data are not available for the public service as a whole.
