Question 136: To ask the Minister for Finance the number of sick days taken by staff in his Department in 2009, 2010 and 2011; the average number of sick days per staff in total across his Department and broken down by Department section in 2009, 2010 and 2011; the median number of sick days per staff in total across his Department and broken down by Department section in 2009, 2010 and 2011 in tabular form. The absenteeism rate for the Department of Finance from January to end June 2009 was 3.09%. The absenteeism rate for July to end December 2009 was 2.99%. These figures are inclusive of those on long term absences (i.e. absences of over 20 consecutive days). In the period 1 January to 31 December 2010, the average number of sick days per employee was 8 with an absenteeism rate of 3.6%. In the period 1 January to 30 June 2011 the average number of sick day per employee was 3 with an absenteeism rate of 2.43%. In the period 1 July to 31 December 2011, the average number of sick days per employee was 2 with an absenteeism rate of 1.57%.
