Question 225: To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if there is an estimated cost for the building of the Cork docklands gateway bridge. [33745/12]

The improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is a statutory function of each road authority within its area, in accordance with the provisions of section 13 of the Roads Act, 1993. Works on such roads are a matter for the relevant local authority to be funded from its own resources and may be supplemented by State road grants.

Notwithstanding the above, an application was received by my Department from the Cork City Council in May 2011 for financial assistance for the Cork Docklands Eastern Gateway Bridge Project. The estimated cost, at that time, was in excess of €60 million.
