Since my appointment as Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, I have had ongoing regular contact with IDA Ireland at both Board and executive level. As recently as last week, I met with both the CEO of IDA, and jointly with senior managers within the IDA and EI. As you know the Action Plan for Jobs has set a target of supporting the creation of 100,000 net new jobs over the period 2012 to 2016, with the longer term objective of having 2 million people at work by 2020. The Second Progress Report on the implementation of the Plan will be published shortly.
Globally the outlook for FDI continues to be challenging, but there are still investment opportunities in global markets. IDA continues to compete vigorously for these projects and to date this year there have been 49 Investment announcements with the potential to create almost 5,500 jobs.
