Question 51: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if he will clarify the position whereby the Irish father of a child born here, whose mother holds a passport from another jurisdiction, will restrict the right of the child's mother to remove the child from this jurisdiction without the father's consent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade is responsible under the terms of the Passports Act, 2008 (the Act) for the issue of Irish passports to Irish citizens. If the father has concerns about the issue of an Irish passport to his child, he may express his objections in writing in this matter to the Minister. Such an objection would be considered in the context of the terms of the Act. The Minister for Justice and Equality may be able to provide further details re the other aspects of this query.
