Question 102: To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will work with Fáilte Ireland in the interests of promoting tourism, to ensure that there is no cut to the opening hours of the James Joyce Museum at the Martello Tower in Sandycove; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The James Joyce Tower and Museum was operated by Dublin Tourism up to the end of 2011 but is now the responsibility of Fáilte Ireland. Accordingly, I have asked the agency to reply directly to the Deputy. If you do not receive a reply within ten working days, please contact my private office.

However, I understand from Fáilte Ireland that the tower and museum was open through Bloomsweek, and, outside of these dates, groups will be facilitated by prior arrangement, subject to staff availability, until a more permanent arrangement can be put in place. In addition I am informed by Fáilte Ireland that they are currently in discussions with Dun-Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council with a view to the Council taking over the permanent operation, promotion and marketing of the Joyce Tower and Museum in 2013.
