Question 289: To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will provide a list of all allowances and the payment rates of those allowances paid to staff in his Department that are subject to income tax and the list of allowances and the payment rates paid to staff that are not subject to income tax; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The table that follows this reply shows the allowances and payment rates that are appropriate to certain staff in my Department. In many cases, the actual payment rate may be determined by the grade, point of pay or period covered by the claim. This is the reason for different rates for the same allowance. The rates referred to cover the pay period between June 2011 and June 2012. All allowances are calculated and paid in accordance with the rules governing the schemes.
