The number of requests to carry munitions of war or dangerous goods on civilian aircraft under the Air Navigation (Carriage of Munitions of War, Weapons and Dangerous Goods) Orders in the first four months of 2012, January to April was 316. The number granted was 306. The number of these flights which landed at Shannon was 239.

My Department deals with requests to carry munitions of war on civilian aircraft through Irish airports or in Irish controlled airspace under the Air Navigation (Carriage of Munitions of War, Weapons and Dangerous Goods) Order 1973 as amended. My Department does not collate information with regard to the number of troops carried on board civilian aircraft. However, Shannon Airport has informed me that the number of US troops that passed through Shannon Airport from January to April 2012 was approximately 45,000.
