Question 1021: To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the recommendations that have been issued by him in relation to national policy on urban roundabouts; if local authorities have been advised to phase out urban roundabouts; if such advice has been given the basis and reasoning behind same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The traffic management guidelines which were prepared in conjunction with the then Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, issued in 2003. The purpose of these guidelines is to provide guidance on a variety of issues including traffic planning, traffic calming and traffic management. In particular, chapter 8 of these guidelines deal with selecting the appropriate type of junction. These guidelines are available on my Department's website at www.dttas.ie .
