My Department estimates that there is potential to generate up to 2,000 jobs per annum from the metering programme and the type of work involved would typically be carried out by general operatives, machinery operators and plumbers/fitters. Irish Water, a new State-owned water company to be established as an independent subsidiary within the Bord Gáis Eireann Group, will be responsible for the metering programme. It is expected that the procurement for the programme will commence later this year.
