Question 550: To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the plans he has for the development and support of Ireland West Airport Knock, County Mayo, in conjunction with plans for Shannon Airport, County Clare, as announced to ensure that both regions are equally well served and to ensure that the State contributes on a similar basis to enterprise, tourism development and job creation throughout the west of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Any developments in relation to Ireland West Airport Knock are a matter for the management of that Airport which is a privately owned entity.

While a decision in principle have been taken in relation to Shannon Airport, a Steering Group which is shortly to be established by myself and the Minister of Jobs Enterprise and Innovation will be tasked with bringing forward proposals for the implementation of that decision. Issues relating to airport competition, tourism and enterprise development along with job creation are among the matters to be considered by the Steering Group in the first instance.
