Question 36: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government in view of the reported failure to comply with building programmes, fire safety, in apartment buildings at Priory Hall and Belmayne, Dublin, if his attention has been drawn to similar non-compliance in other apartment buildings; and the action he will take to ensure fire safety in these buildings. Local authorities have extensive powers of inspection and enforcement under current legislation and have used such powers on a number of occasions including the high profile case at Priory Hall. Concerns in relation to a number of developments are already in the public domain, and I have urged local authorities to continue to use all of the powers currently available to them to address issues of building standards compliance, including in relation to fire safety.
