Question 307: To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if there are plans to include the vocational educational committees under the bodies covered by the Freedom of Information Act; the reason they are not currently covered by the Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy will be aware that the Programme for Government contains a commitment to extend Freedom of Information to ensure that all statutory bodies and all bodies significantly funded by the Exchequer are covered by the legislation.
My Department is currently engaged in consultation with all other Government Departments about developing and finalising proposals for consideration by the Government in relation to the extension of Freedom of Information in line with the Programme for Government commitment. The position of the VECs is being examined in this context.
