Question 453: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the reason the State will not opt into Directive 2003/86/EC on family reunification; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16195/12]

The original rationale for non-participation in the Directive in question involved serious concerns about the Common Travel Area implications of the Directive, in the event that Ireland participated while the UK remained outside. I do not think that position has changed significantly since then. However the matter will be kept under review.
