Question 305: To ask the Minister for Social Protection the reason persons in receipt of lone parents allowance and jobseeker's benefit payment have their payments changed from weekly to monthly when they take up limited employment; if her attention has been drawn to the hardship that this change causes many families; and if she will make a statement on the matter. All payments to jobseeker and one-parent family clients are made on a weekly basis. A person claiming one-parent family payment can work and receive a weekly payment provided their earnings are within certain parameters. A person on a jobseeker scheme who is working full time would not normally be entitled to a payment. However, if the work is of a casual nature, payment is made on a weekly basis once all of the conditions of the scheme are met.

If the deputy has a particular case in mind, my officials will be happy to examine the matter.
