Question 244: To ask the Minister for Health if a person who is in receipt of a full medical card takes ill while in Northern Ireland is covered should they have to be admitted to hospital in Northern Ireland as an emergency case; if their follow-up treatment is covered under the GMS; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the provisions of EU Regulations 883/2004, all persons ordinarily resident in Ireland are covered for necessary health care for the duration of their stay in another EU member-State. Follow on treatment is subject to the normal eligibility rules for treatment in this State.
