Question 574: To ask the Minister for Defence the number and costs of advertisements placed in national newspapers for job vacancies in the civil and public service in the past 12 months; the number of new entrants recruited from the process; the number of vacancies filled from inside the civil and public service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In the past 12 months, 3 recruitment advertisements have been placed in the national newspapers in respect of officer cadetship competitions and medical officer competitions for the Defence Forces, at a cost of €60,314. A total of 32 cadets were inducted from the 2011 officer cadetship competition. Applications are still being received for the medical officers competition, with two offers having been made and accepted to date.
An advertisement was placed in the national newspapers at a cost of €4,411 in respect of a vacancy for a civilian archivist. It is anticipated that one new entrant will commence employment shortly arising from the recruitment process that took place following on from the advertisement.
