As the Deputy will be aware, the Mallow area has been identified by my Department as one of the areas where, due to demographic changes, it is projected that there will be a requirement for significant additional school provision at both primary and post-primary levels over the coming years.

In this context, it is proposed that one the twenty new primary schools that I announced in June 2011 last to meet the needs of our growing population will be established in the Mallow area. In addition to this new school, it may be necessary to extend the capacity of many existing primary schools to meet the demand for increased pupil places. In that regard, my Department has been in contact with primary schools in the Mallow area concerning their accommodation position. These developments are expected to cater for the projected growth in the Mallow area at primary level over the coming years.
