Question 475: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if his attention has been drawn to an incident involving the death of a prison dog at Wheatfield Prison, Dublin, in December 2011; if he will request the Irish Prison Service to place all reports on the incident before the Oireachtas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can inform the Deputy that an internal investigation is being conducted by the Irish Prison Service into this matter. I understand that the Irish Prison Service has received a preliminary pathology report which states that the cause of death of the dog was unclear but there was no evidence of trauma to the lower body, limbs or neck area or of airway obstruction. The final pathology report is awaited and I have asked the Irish Prison Service to inform the Deputy of the outcome when it has been received.
