Question 404: To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if he will confirm that any payments of compensation to turf cutters will not impact on the value of payments they receive from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine; if he will clarify the revenue treatment of such payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The operation of REPS and other Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine schemes is a matter for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine. My Department has been in touch with the Department of Finance to clarify the tax treatment of compensation under the Cessation of Turf Cutting Compensation Scheme and with a view to addressing any issues arising in the forthcoming Finance Bill 2012.
