The Deputy will be aware that the Commissioner, in consultation with his senior management team, is responsible for the detailed allocation of resources, including personnel, throughout the organisation. I have been informed by the Commissioner that, notwithstanding the reduction in Garda numbers, the Garda Traffic Corps, the primary role of which is roads policing, remains in place. The strength of the Corps, as of the latest date for which figures are readily available, was 969. All members of An Garda Síochána are tasked with enforcing criminal legislation, including the Road Traffic and Road Transports Acts and relevant regulations.
