Question 148: To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the extent, directly or through the regulator, he can obtain information relating to the number of burglar alarms or other alert systems that are reliant on wire or wireless systems in view of the vulnerability of any such system lacking GSM backup; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of alarm or alert systems is a matter for the private marketplace. Neither my Department nor the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has any role in setting the standards for what alarm systems are used or in the monitoring of their performance.
