Question 38: To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the progress that has been made to date in securing properties under the control of the National Assets Management Agency that might be suitable for use as local sports facilities; if he will provide a list of these properties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Sports Capital Programme the Department provides funding at local, regional and national level to sporting clubs and organisations, voluntary and community organisations and, in certain circumstances, local authorities and schools/colleges towards the provision of sporting facilities. The Programme does not provide funding towards the purchase of land or buildings.

My officials have had discussions with NAMA with regard to how NAMA properities can be made available to sporting organisations. From these discussions, I understand that NAMA has already made arrangements with some sports groups to lease land controlled by NAMA and that NAMA tries to accommodate these requests where it is possible. However, such arrangements are a matter for NAMA and the sporting organisations involved.
